Coaching tip: But who is in your details?

Some say that God is in the details, and some say it’s the Devil. They can move us forward, and they can hold us back. They can create near-magic when handled well, or can make issues impossibly muddled. Who...or what...is in your details?

So let’s deal with both the big picture, and the obstructing details, in your life right now.

Many of us have at least a few holidays coming up in the next couple of months. Many of us want to enjoy these, but are exhausted by them instead.

Part of the reason is that we allow details to obstruct the true vision.

I’d like you to work on two things in this month’s field work. Using the fre.e. download, I’d like you to work on finding a few troublesome “tolerations” to clean up  in preparation for the holidays.

I’d also like you to consider what your vision of a wonderful holiday season would be like. Get that big picture which defines what the details should really be.  Then, I’d you to examine your actual holiday practices, and ruthlessly remove all holiday-related “tolerations” that will get in the way of this happening.

So I ask you...is there that magical, wonderful power in the details of your life? Or are your details muddying your vision and exhausting you? Who...or what....is in your details?

I do offer 2 fre.e. coaching email exchanges per newsletter for my subscribers. E-mail me or call me if I can be of assistance.

October Download

Enjoy the fre.e. download document, which you can use to examine your own life for your own "tolerations". You can find it at  http://www.possibilitiescoaching.com/1001tolerations.pdf

Time Management tip of the month: Timing is Everything

Have you noticed that the timing of what you do can be almost as powerful as the actual content of what you do? Thoughtful planning of the timing of our work is a critical part of good time management.

There is quite a bit of useful content in this concept (such as planning your day to match your personal rhythms) which I will explore in a later issue.

However, I want to discuss the topic of timing your holiday preparation. It is important that I deal with this in this issue, because I am asking you to do it NOW.

Holidays can be spoiled by the dealing with crowds, traffic, the stress caused by rushing, the stress of too much to do on top of ordinary responsibilities. (I’ll deal with this in the next topic as well).

Whatever you need to do to prepare for the holidays (gift-giving, card-writing, etc) can often be much more easily done all year, or at least in October or November, instead of done at the last minute in December. I make it a point to complete most of my holiday shopping and preparation by the first of December each year, and it makes the rest of the year so much easier. People seem amazed by that, but it is really much easier to do it that way.

Wouldn’t it be easier for you too, if you employed the magic of good timing with your holiday preparation, and off-loaded the burden to earlier in the year?

Products and services for your greater effectiveness

Stress Management Tip

Don't ignore this unless you can come up with a good reason why!

This month’s tip is quite focused and specific on the activities you need to be engaging in this coming month.

Hear me out now!

Unless you really enjoy crowds and traffic and paying more than you need to pay for an item, you really need to consider doing a significant portion of your holiday shopping online. (Remember that it is safe; but pay on secure sites).

This one simple choice has the potential for considerably lowering your holiday stress.

Read my "web sites of the month" to find the best prices.

You can often have an item shipped to your recipient for considerably less than you could buy it, wrap it, and ship it yourself.

Finally, I encourage you to read my Time tips and finalize your shopping early, so that you can relax and enjoy the rest of the holiday season!

Book Reviews of the Month:
Start With No

Start with NO...The Negotiating Tools that the Pros Don't Want You to Know  (America's number one negotiating coach explains why win-win is an ineffective, often disastrous strategy and how you can beat it)

by Jim Camp

Oh, I love this book. This is an excellent resource for good communication skills.

Those of you who have worked with me know that I am a definite "win/win or no deal" person. This book hasn't changed me a bit on that point.

However, this book has absolutely excellent points on how to negotiate effectively, powerfully,  and with integrity. It describes clearly how we need to be ready and able to say "no", how we must view not compromising as a clear alternative, how neediness hurts us, and how "playing nice" can hurt both sides of the bargaining table. I would personally argue that we cannot really be soft until we can be tough, and can not really say "yes" unless "no" is something we could also fre.e.ly choose.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in communication and negotiation.

Cool Tool of the month:  ROBOFORM

As of last month, I used a fre.e. spysware tool to fill in all of my passwords, personal information, and such on the web.  I liked its functionality, but realized that the spyware aspect was a "toleration" for me. So I  found Roboform, a fre.e. product which is much smaller and leaner, and does much more in terms of what it will fill in for me on the web. This is a very  well-done product. This is a must-try, which you can find for fre.e. in its basic form at http://www.roboform.com

Web site of the month: Shopping Comparison Web Sites

One of the web sites I often use is www.bizrate.com. It is a quick and easy way to compare prices on items. I love it.

However, Epinions has combined their powerful user reviews with DealTime, and created www.shopping.com. So far, it has proved to also be a very useful resource, and one I think will help you over the holiday season.

One final Coaching Thought

There is power in someone brainstorming with you, strategizing with you, challenging you to your best, holding you accountable to your commitments, seeing what is in your blind spots, and championing you as you reach your aspirations. Coaching works.

What has not yet yielded to your best efforts? A weight issue? Energy issues? Paper chaos? Time management problems? A stalled business or career path? A project that you just haven't been able to complete?

Call or email me if you'd like to see if coaching can make a difference with this.
