Developing your Creative Gifts (back to the main book review page) The Artist's Way : A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron The
Artist’s Way is more than a guided journey towards reaching your creative
goals. It is a path towards better self-care and enhanced self-awareness as
well. Julia provides 12 steps towards unblocking your creative self, along with
an assortment of helpful exercises. This is an excellent resource to use either
with your own creativity or success group, or with your personal coach. The Vein of Gold : A Journey to Your Creative Heart by Julia Cameron The Vein of Gold is not as structured as The Artist’s Way, and is not a substitute for the original book, but contains enormously useful information and suggestions for those seeking to unlock their artistic dreams.
Finding Your Voice : A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Singing and Living by Carolyn Sloan How to Sing by Graham Hewitt
There
is a fine line between finding your physical voice and finding your social and
spiritual voice. For some of us, looking for our true voice has been freeing and
helpful in ways not easily articulated. If nothing else, as you develop your
singing voice, you may also develop a more pleasing and resonant and “truer”
speaking voice as well. If this sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend
these books. The ongoing exercises may be useful for you and your coach to work
with as well.
The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards Even if you don't have much of an interest in drawing, this book can help most of us develop our holistic, creative side. If you do have even a small interest in drawing, this book is a definite must-read, must-do. Fearless Creating : A Step-By-Step Guide to Starting and Completing Your Work of Art (Inner Workbook.) by Eric Maisel This is a wonderful step-by-step guide to get you going on that creative project you've wanted to start...and/or finish. It has numerous ideas, exercises, and no-nonsense suggestions on how to do what you want to be doing.
Creativity : Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
It is difficult to know if this is best placed within "creativity" or in "discovering the life of your dreams". It has a home in both sections, so I will place it in both! TThis is an extremely interesting and illuminating work on the optimal state of "flow", in which we are often most effective. It is a scholarly and captivating book.
